We'll start with the camping trip. Most of us found the camping trip fun. We couldn't get a spot at the any of the close camping grounds, as I didn't have the money to reserve ahead on the internet. But, we did camp. Where, you may ask? Why, in my mom's back yard, of course. Mom lives in the nearly-country. So, we pitched the tents in the back yard. The first night it was Shawn, me and the girls, Taylor did come to visit for dinner and marshmallows over the fire. So, let's start with the pics.

Here is Shawn, roasting a marshmallow.

Here is Taylor and Katie. (sorry, the pic's a little blurry.) Before I took Bebe, mom wasn't able to let her out in the back yard without being on a leash, she would try to run off. Both mom and dad commented on how calm she is since I inherited her, and how she just followed me around.

The camp fire.

Roasting marshmallows. We went canoeing Saturday afternoon at Trapper John's Canoe Livery, which is around the corner from mom's. Sorry, no pics of that, as I didn't want to risk getting my camera wet. Katie went back yesterday, her first day of 8th grade. Annie goes back tomorrow for her first day of 2nd grade. Today, I had my first day back to my normal, long commute. As much as I've hated that drive for the past 7 years, I actually enjoyed it today. Maybe it's because I got to spend more than 15 minutes alone. This past summer, I only had to drive to work, so I only spent 15 minutes in the car. Now that I'm back to the normal drive, which I spend 2 hours in the car each day, I have found it to be relaxing. And, maybe it's also the fact that I can feel fall in the air, and I have a powerful urge to start a cabled pullover. But, anywho!

I do have camping pics to share, I just haven't found the time to blog about them. I'll try to post them soon. And I have 2 FO's to share. But, I'm not at home. If you're on Ravelry, you can check them out before I blog about them. I whipped up a Tudora with a ball of left overs from my CPH, which was Wool of the Andes in Black Cherry Heather. And I finally finished my Wool Peddler's Shawl. I still need to wash and block the shawl, but it came out so lovely. So, now I am working on another Tudora in some Plymouth Baby Alpaca in a deep pumpkin orange. I'll be making a matching pair of Fetching to go with it. This will be my new winter set to go with my navy pea coat. I'll also be finishing the sleeves for my poor forgotten Rogue. I have also been trying to crank out squares for the afghans I'm working on for Christmas. I still need to finish Annie's bright green Irish Hiking Scarf. And I have a pair of socks on the needles that have been waiting patiently for me to finish them and mail them to Canada, to Miss Laura. Plus, this weekend I want to process about 5 lbs of blackberries for jam, make some apple and white grape jelly, and some pumpkin butter. Thank goodness it's a long weekend.

So, until I'm able to post pics, Happy Knitting!Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-84363079510440196562008-08-12T12:06:00.002-04:002008-08-12T13:17:22.506-04:00A case of just my luck, and a busy week aheadIt never fails. Yesterday I visited the LYS to see if they had my ball of red, and it wasn't in. Well, this morning I was washing my hands after eating a doughnut, and my back pocket started singing. It was the LYS to tell me that my yarn arrived this morning. See? Just my luck. So, I'll be running back up there this afternoon for lunch, to fetch my ball of yarn. In the mean time, I re-started the sleeves for my poor, lingering Rogue. I didn't get too far last night, but I'm going to finish them before finishing my Wool Peddlar's Shawl.

The rest of my busy week will be in an impromptu trip to Dayton this evening, and then packing for camping this weekend, more on that in a minute. Why the trip to Dayton, you may ask? Well, it's because I have a chance to get my hot little hands on a very sought after book. My SIL has graciously found a copy of Alice Starmore's Aran Knitting that I can barrow. Therefore, I think a trip to Dayton is a small price to pay to get my hands on a book that is currently selling for more that $260. Then, Shawn will have his long awaited St. Enda pullover.

As for the camping trip, I can't wait. I love to go camping. I have taken Friday off so I can grocery shop in the morning, and go in the afternoon to set up camp. Shawn was surprised that he found a woman that comes complete with all of her own camping gear. I have been equipped for years. I have 3 different sizes of tents, coolers in abundance, old cook wear set aside just for camping, an air mattress (which I will be buying another this week), but I have to replace my sleeping bags, they were a little on the old side, like almost as old as Katie. We're not going far, we're just going to Deer Creek State Park, but, it's camping. Woo-Hoo! Miss PJ and the boys might going along as well. I'll try to remember my camera, so I can share pics.

Anywho! Lunch is quickly approaching, and I have to run. Happy Knitting!Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-35907304420661517422008-08-11T14:30:00.007-04:002008-08-11T15:09:02.110-04:00An FO and the hunt for more to finish offWell, I went to my LYS to see if they have the last ball of red I need. They said that it was on it's way, but just hadn't arrived yet. While I was there, I also checked on some Cascade Cash Vero DK for a friend in Mississagua, Canada. Can we say ouch? They don't carry it the shop, so they would have to order it. It has to be ordered by the bag, which she did need a whole bag, but it was $9 US per ball. We have picked out some Knit Picks Merino Style in Dusk. It'll make a lovely shawl.

Over the weekend I finished off my Central Park Hoodie. It shall linger in a unfinished state no more. She was more than happy to try and keep it. I have promised to make her one. She has picked out some Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in Forest Heather for hers. Until later.....

Happy Knitting!
Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-1597033267618107732008-08-05T21:30:00.010-04:002008-08-05T22:11:17.746-04:00Dangerous cake, dangerous knitting and dangerous funThe girls and I settled in for a night alone, Shawn stayed home this evening. I made pizza pasta salad for dinner, and we decided to experiment for dessert. I have been working very hard on my CPH (since I still don't have the last ball of yarn to finish my WPS), here's a progress pic:

I have a sleeve and a half to finish, and the ribbing trim on the front, and it'll be a done puppy!

As for dessert, I found the most dangerous cake recipe in the world (Ravelry link) on Ravelry. If you don't know what that is, and you're on Ravelry, you have to check it out. I just had to try it out with the girls. For those of you that aren't on Ravelry, yet, (if you're not, go join the wait list now), you mix a little bit of everything you need to make a cake in a mug, and cook it in the microwave for about 3 minutes. I was very skeptical when I saw the recipe, but I must admit, it worked, and was very yummy. Here are some pics of that:

Here are the mugs we mixed them in.

Here is one in the microwave, cooking. I collect one for every year that I visit. I guess I'll just have to try to glue this one back together and set it the back of the shelf. I'll have to look for another green one next year. Oh well! (Granted, I can say that now, but I was very upset at the time.)

Happy Knitting!Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-27584964630996541812008-07-30T16:25:00.002-04:002008-07-30T16:42:32.441-04:00Lessons I have learnedOtherwise know as, things not to do. As I said in the last post, I have picked back up my CPH while waiting for the last hank of red for my WPS. Having left the project to languish for 2 years, and seperating the project from the instructions that have my hand written notes on them have taught me a very big lesson. And that lesson would be, DON'T LEAVE A PROJECT TO LAY FOR 2 FLIPPIN' YEARS!!!! But, I have to laugh at myself. It is sorta, kinda funny. Thank the Heavens that my alterations to the pattern were small and easy to figure out. And, if I keep working at this rate, I just may have it finished by the time my red yarns arrives. Maybe if I do get it finished, and have time, I may just finish the sleeves for my Rogue, another project that has languished for 2 years, or more. Although, I do have 1 baby blanket that I need to knit, and 2 afghans to work on for Christmas. Who know what mood will strick, if and when I finish my CPH.Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-82788061896094799012008-07-29T10:20:00.016-04:002008-12-11T06:51:00.542-05:00Busy, busy month! (Warning: Picture Heavy Post)I have been such a bad blogger. But, I have really been down this year. Maybe with moving, trying to settle in and Grandma dying has put me in this funk. For the longest time, I was unable to knit, and now it seems like I can't stop knitting. But, let me get to the pics I have today, then I'll tell about my mis-adventures in knitting.

I did get the costumes done for Great Lake Medieval Faire, and just in time to leave. I was literally driving gromits an hour before we were ready to leave on Friday. We had a lovely time, aside from the heat. Once got settled into the hotel, we found a resturant that we haven't tried before. Great little itlian place that was in an old bank. They served a great chicken Marsala, and had excellent margaritas, I had two. When we got back to the hotel, the kids wanted to go swimming in the indoor pool. So, I sat poolside with Cassi and watched Katie do cannon balls in the deep end (which was 5 ft deep). She had one really good one, the back splash hit the ceiling of the pool room. On Saturday, we all got started bright and early, got breakfast at the hotel, got dressed is costume and headed off to the fair. Let me just say now that it was hot. And I do mean hot. We got there at about 10:30 am, and didn't leave until around 6 pm. We had fun, but everyone scattered to the four winds once we got in there. We all did meet up several times, and we did get some pics. I don't have all of them here, but here's a few:

Here's the boys: (from left to right) Pat (Shawn's dad), Chris and Shawn (Mr. S).

Here is Annie and Cassi. But, we had a blast. It did rain on Sunday. We were trapped on the covered bridge to the mud show with about 20 other people. While we were trapped, Barrett played, a wandering minstrel couple played for us, and the mud show performers did a show on the bridge for us, and used Katie (much to her dislike) as part of the show. The only bad thing that happened was that I lost my favorite sunglasses off the side of the bridge, and didn't want to get down into the mud to retrieve them. I do have more pics. I'll upload them later when I'm on my laptop, which is where the pics are.

This past weekend, Katie had her year end softball party. It was held out at Buckeye Lake at one of the girls grandparents vacation house. And let me just say, I haven't been out there since I was a kid, and boy, have the summer houses changed. I'm talking around 300k and better for these places. Oh, how a long for a summer house. (Sorry. Eddie Izzard fans will understand that one.) Anywho. The girls had a blast. There weren't too many kids there, which was good. They swam in the lake, rode the pontoon boat and jet ski, and even went tubing. I bought 4 hanks of Cascade 220, in a lovely red. I worked on it, mainly, after I finished the costumes. I even took it with me to the softball party. Yesterday, I brought it with me to work, I thought I'd work on it at lunch. When I pulled it out of my bag and saw how small my ball of yarn was (the 3rd ball), I pulled the last hank out to wind it up, and realized that it was the wrong colorway. I didn't know if I wanted to laugh or cry. And it was clearly the wrong colorway, not the wrong dye lot, the wrong colorway. I called the store where I got it, because they'll let me exchange it for the right one, just to find out that they are out of my colorway and have to order one for me. Now, I have to resort to working on something else until it comes in. I had thought about starting a baby blanket for Miss PJ, but then I thought about the projects that hanging around the house unfinished. If you are wondering which ones they are, they're on the side bar, to the right, if you want to take a peek. So, I went into my room and picked up the first yarn tote I saw. It just happened to be my poor CPH. But, in the mean time, here is a pic of my Wool Peddler's Shawl.

Not a very good pic, I know, I'll take a better one later. We both have decided that since money is really tight this year, that there were going to be lots of home made goodies given, in a gift basket form (jams, jellies, cookies and breads, that sort of thing). Then we got to discussing gift for our own children. We discussed how they get too many gifts some years. And as they get older, they don't really need that many. Then, she tells me that the only gift she has from her childhood is a old afghan that was made for her. She asked me if I still had any of my old Christmas gifts. So, I thought about it, and realized that I do have 3 from when I was young. I have my baby Strawberry Shortcake doll, my Baby Bubble bath time doll, and a Little Mermaid necklace from Avon. That really made me think. I don't have any handmade gifts. And the more I thought about it, the more I realized that only one of my grandmothers does any type of crafting. My grandmother Bonnie quilts, but she's never made anything for me. Maybe it's because I'm only a step-grandchild? And only my great-grandma Maletha did any crafting. She made quilts, too. But she died in the late '50's. My mom does have several of her quilts, but that's because she inherited them when her dad died. Which made me realize, maybe that's why I am such an crafting addict. Maybe that's why I insist on making at least 1 blanket a year for my girls. Maybe that's why I insist on making gifts for my nieces and cousins, my parents, and what's left of my grandparents. Maybe that's why I have fabric and yarn all over my house. Maybe.

Well, I didn't get to knit last night. I spent the evening rearranging my china cabinet. Then after dinner, I played video games. Well, I played the new Indiana Jones Lego game. I love that game, it's so cool. But, I'll share a pic of my china cabinet (aka curio cabinet pretending to be a china cabinet, as I don't have enough room in my new place for a real one):

This is my pride and joy. On the bottom three shelves is my collection of Fine China of Japan #6701, pattern name Vintage. I have 13 place settings (I put only 12 in the cabinet, as it looks better), the platter, gravy boat with underplate, tea pot, sugar with lid and creamer. As I was moving it around, I broke my round veggie bowl. But, that's a common piece, and I found a replacement that I'm ordering from ebay at the end of the week. But in the process of looking for another bowl, I found the covered soup turine. I ordered it, and that's why I have to wait till the end of the week to order the other. The only thing I need is the salt & pepper shakers. Then, on the top of the cabinet is the beginnings of my Libbey Silver Leaf glass collection. They go very well with the china. On the top shelf is my odds and ends tea pot, etc, collection. Maybe one day I'll take some pics of my vintage luncheon plate collection.

Katie has a make up game tonight, way out in the boonies. So, I'll have garaunteed knitting time. I'd take pics, but Mr. S borrowed my camera last night, so I'll have to take them later.

Happy Knitting!
Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-82657735561836104072008-07-01T16:12:00.002-04:002008-07-01T16:32:03.243-04:00Just another week?Remember the damp carpet? Well, it started growing, literally. At the edge, along the base board, it started to sprout mushrooms. I thought I was seeing things last night, when I first noticed it. But no, they were mushrooms. So, there is a professional carpet company at my place, right now, cleaning the carpets. And all because the previous tennants put the wrong air filter in the furnace. It was too big, and didn't allow the a/c run off to drain properly. Now my SIL in Dayton is calling me Shrum-girl. lol. That's ok, because I'm gonna start calling her Geico, as the stupid customer service person for AT&T transferred her to Geico's customer service. Just because she didn't want to listen to his little schpell about all their service bundles. lol. What a day, huh?

Well, I'm coming along nicely on my second Josephine Top. All I have left to do is the shoulder decreases on the back, the front right side, the sleeve caps, and the trim. I really want to have it done by this weekend, but I doubt it. And the reason I want to have it done is because I have to start making costumes this weekend. The are all medieval gowns. I have 4 adult gowns, 2 child gowns, 3 adult corsages, and 2 child half bodices to make. I'll post pics as we work on them. We'll be starting on them this Saturday. I want to have them finished no later than July 12th. But since they are basic gowns, they'll be a breeze. I picked out some pretty interesting colors, too. Just wait and see.

Until later, Happy Knitting! (and sewing)Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-27309020454788758812008-06-25T11:36:00.004-04:002008-06-25T13:21:17.662-04:00Lost: Knitting Mojo reward offeredIt seems that I have not had any knitting mojo lately. It seems that when Grandma got really sick, my knitting mojo went right out the window. I finished Miss PJ's waffle socks on May 23rd, and I haven't even cast on for the next pair. What's wrong with me? Maybe it's lack of inspiration. Although I have been working on my 2nd Josephine Top here and there. But I started that on April 23rd, and I had the first one done in 3 weeks. And I bought some lovely bright red Cascade 220 for a Wool Peddler's shawl. I did get some beautiful Knit Picks Shimmer in Sherry to make a Highland Triangle shawl. And I did get some Knit Picks Bare in lace weight and some purple dye to make my Balmoral shawl. Geesh, I've been a slacker. And just when I do start to get the urge to knit again, I go and let Mr. S pamper me for my birthday, and I got my nails done. That throws a curve ball in there, considering that I haven't had my nails done in 3 years. Boy, I had better kick my knitting rear end in gear, as I have great aspirations for Christmas gifts, and I've already started 1 project. Well, Ghost Hunters is on tonight, I'll have to make sure that I have some needles in hand.

Then, to top it off, my neighbor's a/c unit has a leak, and it's leaking into my apartment. I used my carpet cleaner to suck up about 5 gallons of water out of my carpet. This, after they said they fixed the problem. So, I have to have them come back out and take a look again. Then, we are getting all types of bugs that are coming in, and since we don't have a basement, they are coming into my kitchen and living room. And I noticed a large population of spiders. I hate spiders. I just need to find the biggest can of Raid I can find, and use it.

The good thing is that Katie is almost done with softball for this season. We have 2 more regular games, and any make up games they can schedule before the play offs the 2nd weekend of July. Which is a relief, with gas prices what they are. Some of the teams we have to visit to play are 10 miles or more out in the country.

Ok, I'm off to look for sock patterns in Ravelry.Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-7139539769265682142008-06-17T15:15:00.003-04:002008-12-11T06:51:00.953-05:00Joy and Pain
Like sunshine and rain. I know. That title made me sing Rob Base, too. However, it has been a case of joy and pain around here. So, I'll start with the joy.

My niece Sydney graduated from high school on June 6th. Mind you, she is my ex-husbands niece, but as we see it, you divorce the person, not the family. We drove out to Dayton to attend the ceremony, and celebrate afterward. I can't believe the little blonde girl that used to ride her tricylce on the shared stoop is a woman now. And the great news is that she has been accepted to Wright State to major in film. My niece will one day be a famous film producer. One day, she will be wearing something that I have hand knit for her at a red carpet premiere of one of her block buster movies. lol.

Now for the pain. At 3:30 on the afternoon of the my niece's graduation, my grandmother passed away. She was very sick, for a very long time. We knew it was coming, we were just hopeing it would be a while in the coming. She lived a long, full life, though. She was 76 yrs old. I remember spending so many weekends with her. But she wasn't your typical grandmother. We didn't bake cookies too often, and she didn't teach me how to knit or crochet. No, what my grandma taught me was how to play poker, and clean up at it. And how, when I was really little, to drag out my piggy bank when the boys came over to play poker, that way they would help to fill it up. lol. I had the kind of grandma that (as stated) played poker, drank beer, cursed like a sailor, and always had a cigarette in her hand. She loved a good practical joke. She loved to go fishing and camping. I remember how her and her best friend would rent a cabin on the Big Darby river every summer. How we used to go swimming in the river, which was about 300 feet from the front door of the cabin, and that was the late '70's, so we didn't have to worry about polution in the river. I remember going to Sea World in Cleveland for my 12th birthday with mom and grandma. I remember her reluctantly letting me use her car so my mom could teach me to drive a stick shift when I was 16. Which didn't work, I still can't drive a stick shift too well. I remember her getting married to one of her long time friends in a double ceremony, the day before my 17th birthday. And I remember how proud she was when each of my girls were born. I look very much like her, I have her bad attitude, and from the pictures they showed at the funeral home, I got my red hair from her. I miss you, Grandma. And I love you.

In Loving Memory of

Josie

1932-2008
Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-59568874872710017922008-05-19T09:36:00.009-04:002008-12-11T06:51:02.255-05:00Productive weekendDespite the fact that I was on call for work this past weekend, I had a very productive weekend. I decided to make apple jelly, as I can't find any in the stores that don't have high fructose corn syrup in it. And I could go on and on about the evils of HFCS. I have cut out as much of the foods that contain it as possible. But, here in the good ol' US of A, that's a hard thing to do, since our society seems to be addicted to it. But, since I love apple jelly, this was the only way I was going to get it the way I want it. And I have pics to share. Up first is the ingrediants that I used:

Apple juice (yes, apple juice), lemon juice, sugar and powdered fruit pectin. Simple enough, huh?

Next are the pots that I used:

One to sterilize my jars, one to sterilize my lids and one to cook the jelly in.

My jars, upside down to heat the lids so they'll seal.

The finished product. And all of that on Saturday. On Sunday, I got up and made french toast for breakfast. Then made another small batch of apple jelly, as well as starting an Amish Friendship Bread starter. So, we'll start having yummy Friendship Bread in about 9 days.

As far as knitting, I got the first sock of the pair for Miss PJ done. I'm making her a pair for wear while in the hospital having the baby. I'm using some Tofutsies in pink/mauve colors, since that the only pink I'm going to get to knit for her. I should get the other sock done in no time flat this week, as Katie has 3 games this week on Monday, Wednesday and Thrusday. Oh, and I'll have a little time to knit, while my car is being serviced at lunch.

I hope everyone had a happy and productive weekend. For my Mother's Day, we had a great lunch at the Asian Gourmet. And I was able to sit, knit, and enjoy a beer, all while watching the first 3 Indiana Jones movies that I dvr'd on Saturday. So, I have 4 FO's to show today. Granted, they're not huge projects, they're all quick knits, but FO's all the same. So,with no further ado, here they are:

First up is Baby Bib O'Love #4 for Miss PJ's baby, which is due May 28th.

Next up are bibs that would have been for Miss PJ, if she was having a girl. Since she's not, they are going to one of the sales reps at work, and he and his wife had a girl a few months back:

Then, we have a project that I found to be fun and very green. They are Re-usable Swiffer clothes. As much as I love my Swiffer, I hated to buy the disposable clothes all the time. And this project is made better by the fact that I can get 2 clothes out of one 50gm ball of Peaches & Cream cotton. There will be plenty of these made in my house, and probably some for Christmas gifts, too.

Well, tonight Katie has a softball game, I just hope it warms up, as the current temp is 63 degrees, windy and cloudy. I don't really want to freeze my arse off, like last week. At least I remember my jacket this time around.

Oh, and an update on the free Valentine Lace Sock pattern. It is now available for free pdf download. So far Mr. S has had to have surgery, Grandma is back in the hospital, received a call from England on my cell phone, I have started another Josephine Top (well, I started that on Wednesday), have become a legal dective of sorts (if anyone knows about Kentucky estate & probate laws, let me know, I have a few questions for you), was rained out of last night's softball practice, was snowed on over night and have seen that my Valentine Lace Sock pattern is doing pretty good on Ravelry (please remember, if you'd like a copy of the pdf, e-mail me and I will send it to you).

Ok, to expand a little more. I decided that I wanted another Josephine Top, as it's starting to warm up and I need more nice tops to wear. I wanted navy blue for this one, but they didn't have that color at the store I was at, and I wanted to start one right away, so I had to settle for black. It'll look nice, and it'll go with everything. I didn't have too much time to work on it over the weekend, but with softball practice and sitting in the hospital waiting room, I have 2 repeats of 6 done on the bottom. This one seems to be going a little quicker than the last one did. I'll take pics of it tonight to share.Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-70773463408083710112008-04-20T18:34:00.002-04:002008-12-11T06:51:03.524-05:00Weekend knittingSaturday I finished my first pair of Tofutsies socks while at Miss PJ's baby shower. I love those kind of baby showers, very relaxed and friendly. No stupid games. And lots of good food. Here is the pair I just finished.

And PJ loved them so much, I'm making her a pair to wear in the hospital. And since she's having a boy and I can't knit anything in pink, her pair are going to pinks. Here is the pair I started:And a little excitement for today. While at Wally World, they announced that everyone was to evacuate the store, due to a gas leak. We had to leave our cart where it was and exit right away. We ended up going to another store to get our shopping done.

Also, for anyone who is interested, my Valentine Lace Sock pattern in now available in PDF form. Please e-mail me at rosiegypsy@aol.com if you would like a copy, and I'll e-mail it you.Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-44661623745284340692008-04-17T13:38:00.003-04:002008-04-17T13:54:40.657-04:00The Universe picks on meReally. It does. On Tuesday around 8:30 in the morning, we were commenting on how I hadn't been sick since January. This must have caught the attention of the Universe, because at around 10 o'clock that morning I was blind sided by a sinus infection. That is why I was up late Tuesday night to post my pattern. I barely splept that night. Then, I stumbled into work yesterday to realize that we would be short handed for the rest of the week. So, I left at noon yesterday, to go home and sleep for the afternoon. I feel a little better today, and I can breath better, but I'm still so sleepy. I have been drinking tons of water and orange juice, and taking Mucinex and Zicam by the hordes. And Annie came down with it, too. The poor baby. I have been making her take childrens Tylenol, childrens Mucinex and the cough syrup the doctor gave her last month for her strep throat. The bad thing is that I don't have time to be sick. With Katie having softball practice and Miss PJ's baby shower this Saturday, I just don't have time.

Ok, I think I'll go sleep through my lunch, since I forgot my knitting bag at home. See what this illness has done to me? It made me forget my knitting.Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-41748081171836786332008-04-16T00:08:00.012-04:002008-12-11T06:51:04.209-05:00Pics and a Free PatternWell, as I sit here, in the late hours of the night (waiting for laundry to dry & watching Deadliest Catch re-runs), I thought I'd share a few pics, and my Valentine Lace Sock pattern. First up is the current sock WIP:

My socks made from the Tofutsies. I'm on the instep of the second sock.

Also, we have visitor. My grandma had back surgery, so we are dog sitting for her. I am off to bed.Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-37453677136195166182008-04-15T12:11:00.003-04:002008-04-15T13:12:43.140-04:00Back into the swing of thingsIt's been so long since I've blogger, and knitted, that's time to get back into the swing of both. That being said, I finally finished a pair of socks that I designed. The pattern was for a pair of lace heart Valentine's socks. I don't have any picks of the finished pair, yet, I'll try to get that tonight. And I was thinking of publishing the pattern here as a free pattern. Sort of a way to give back to the knitting community that has given me so many free patterns. What do you think?

I have decided that since I have moved, now is the time to unpack all the UFO's I have in boxes, and finish them as I can. I will be starting with my poor Rogue, as all she needs is sleeves. Then, I think I'll tackle my bell sleeve shrug, as I only need to knit the other half. After that, I'll take on my CPH, to get her finished off. Then, I'll have to restart my Highland Heather Pullover and my Fisherman's Shrug, as I frogged them both. I really want them, that's why I'm willing to restart them both. I am also going to start my Christmas knitting as soon as I can get my hands on the yarn. And, I am starting so early because I decided to be ambitious this year and make afghans for my nieces. The good thing is, they are worked in 12"x12" squares and seamed. If I make at least 2 squares a week, I'll have them done by Christmas. Maybe. lol.

I am currently working on a pair of socks in Tofutsies yarn. They are a waffle pattern, and the colorway is #734, which is a green & white twist. So far, so good. I'm half way down the leg of the second sock. I knit the first one while watching season 1 of Lost on dvd. I'll try to get pics tonight, as I watch the season premiere of Deadliest Catch. Yes, I watch Deadliest Catch. I even have the first 3 seasons in my Netflix queue.

Other than that, softball season has begun. Katie has practice twice away, and they didn't have enough girl's in Annie's age group, so she'll be waiting at least another year. So, there'll be plenty of knittng time while sitting on the side lines.

At around 10 o'clock this morning, I started feeling like crap! I don't know if I'm getting a sinus infection, again (which is what it feels like), or if it's my allergies. I'm betting sinus infection. So, I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon vegging at my desk, and then go home and make some hot tea.

Well, off to lunch I go, to knit. Hopefully I'll have pics tomorrow.Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-88383483448428600782008-04-14T13:20:00.002-04:002008-04-14T14:33:49.928-04:00Back in the land of the living!Well, I have made through the move alive. It went somewhat well. With it snowing horribly, the tempratures dropping to about 5 degrees. Then, I had to throw out over half of what I had stored in the garage of the old apartment, as rat had made himself a nice home in most of my boxes. And if I could've cornered him and killed him myself, I would have, especially since he chewed away half of a leg on my sewing cabinet. I still haven't unpacked everything, but atleast we can now see the floor. The rooms that are settled so far are the girls' room, living room, and both bathrooms. My room, the kitchen and the laundry room are still works in progress. And, I was finally able to sit down and knit last week, after almost 2 months I was afraid that I had forgotten. This place is so much smaller than my last couple of places, it hard to find room for everything.

I'll have pics and more of an update later. Happy Monday!Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-43654972631922046032008-02-04T19:57:00.000-05:002008-12-11T06:51:04.905-05:00A busy, busy month ahead!Well, the time has come to finally move. Good news is, I have found a really nice apartment. It's a 2 bedroom townhouse about 2 blocks from where I currently live. So, thankfully, not far to move. The packing and planning has begun. I get the keys on the 15th, and plan to move all the furniture on the 22nd. It'll be a good change for all of us. The girls will still share a room, it'll just be a bigger room, with a closet for each. And, thank goodness it has a bath and a half, a much larger kitchen, a patio off the kitchen and a walk in laundry room. So, the stress begins. And my infrequent blogging may keep up until I get settled in. But, who knows, may I'll find time for more blogging in the next 2 weeks.

But, I do have an FO. I finished the pair of socks that I cast on a few weeks ago. I call them my Ugly Trekking socks, because, as much as I love Trekking XXL, this color way knitted up sorta ugly. So, with no further ado, here they are:

The Specs:
Pattern: My own plain vanilla sock pattern
Yarn: Trekking XXL
Color way: 105
Started: 1/21/08
Finished: 2/4/08

Today while I was packing, my cats presented me with some cute photo ops. Here is Mr. Vinny, indulging in the Red Blanket Treatment:

And, Miss Moonie took advantage of the fact that I packed almost all the dvd's and video games, and took the video door off the entertainment center. She finds the oddest places to lay:

Well, let's see how much knitting and blogging I can get in during the next few weeks. Later.Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-19725222.post-8335341087443787002008-01-26T07:44:00.000-05:002008-12-11T06:51:06.344-05:00Getting ready! For the past couple of weeks, I have been gearing up for what I hate. Moving. I have been looking at apartments, dragging boxes home, and fretting over my tax returns. Plus, some how, I ended up not having a sock on the needles. I had to make a point of casting on for a new sock.

As for moving, I think I have found a nice 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath townhouse with a walk in laundry room, car port and an outside storage unit about a block from where we live now. So, in preparation we have started packing, and planning on what needs to be replaced. I will be getting rid of the girls' futon bunk beds that I bought about 6 years ago, and get them twin platform beds with drawers in the base. My old entertainment center, that I got from Miss Rachel 4 yrs ago, is going and I'll buy new. Fun, fun, fun.

I have finished a few more instant gradifacation projects. Here they are:

Here's the 3rd bib I've made for Miss PJ. And we found out that she's having a boy.

Here is my first Calorimetry:

I made this one with the Patons SWS that I got from my FFBE pal. After what seemed like an endless string of illnesses, and (on Christmas eve, of all days) I developed an abcessed tooth. After a week of antibiotics, I had to have oral surgery to have it removed. And as my luck would have it, it involved 2 of my 3 worst fears, a dentist and needles. The third fear is spiders, just incase you're wondering. In the mean time, I have been able to do some knitting beyond my Christmas knitting. Here is what I have gotten done since then:

First up is my Holiday Candy Cane socks:

Specs:
Yarn: Knit Picks Gloss
Pattern: Knit Picks Holiday Pattern
Started: Dec. 17th, 2007
Finished: Dec. 31st, 2007
Made for: Me

I love this yarn. The dentist was absolutely enthralled with them. He asked me tons of questions, called all the dental assistants over to look at it, and check to see how far I had gotten each time he came over to inject me with more pain killer. I just surprised I was able to knit about half of the sock, including turning the heel, while I was shaking so bad. And, as he worked on me, he told me that he has an elderly neighbor that knits socks for him all the time, and how much he loves them. And thanked me for bringing mine with me to work on.

Up next is one of many forth coming instant gratification projects:

My best friend PJ is expecting a baby at the end of May. This is such a joyous event. It took her over two years to get pregnant with her child, and he is now 10. She tried for so many years after, and had finally resigned herself to not having any more. Now she is so happy! She goes for her ultrasound next week, and they are going to see if they tell what she is having. She really wants a girl. She really needs a girl to spoil, since she has been spoiling my girls over the past 13 years. And I really want her to have a girl, because, let's face it, there is only so much that I can knit for a boy. lol. So, until she can find out, I'll satisfy myself with knitting bibs and burb rags from Mason-Dixon Knitting, in neutral baby colors. The one above is the first one. The second one that I am working on is below.

Such cute colors, huh?

Here are a few pics from Christmas morning:

Annie, opening more gifts.

Here is Katie opening one that she really wanted:

You can't really see what has caused the excited expression, but it's a skate board. I have so much to post about, but very little energy. And, to top it off, I had an allergic reation yesterday. Of all things to be allergic to, food wise, I am allergic to roasted or grilled tomatoes. I can eat them raw, in sauces, in soup, sundried, what have you, but roast or grill one, and I am a walking, itching welt. All I can say is, praise Benedryl. And where did I come into contact with said tomato, you might ask, well let me tell you. A sales rep from a local trucking line brought in pizza, one of which was a veggie pizza with tomatoes. I picked them off, but the juice must have gotten me. Needless to say, I was in Wally World at 6:30, in my pajama pants and a hoodie, looking for my salvation.

On other fronts, I have received my Harvest Sock Swap package from Sheryl. I took pics, I just haven't been able to post them yet. And such lovely goodies, too. I'll post them as soon as I can. I will be a little late mailing my package to my pal, as I am still working on a few hand made gifts.

On the Christmas knittng front, I have 2 items done, and 5 more to go. I'm getting there.

Ok, I feel a nap coming on. I'll post more when I have a little more energy.Miss Toniahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04900968613381597413noreply@blogger.com1
